(Photo by Merle Bertrand) The Rouse Raiders sit with the 2017 Volleypalooza Trophy after they beat Weatherford, 2-0 (25-15, 25-20) in the championship match.
Second seeded Rouse defeated Weatherford 25-15, 25-20 to win the Leander ISD Volleypalooza tournament despite Hurricane Harvey, torrents of rain and a tournament field that saw 45 of the original 68 teams withdraw to return home to Houston, San Antonio and other areas threatened by Harvey.
Rouse head coach and tournament founder and director Jacob Thompson was exhausted after the championship ivory over a tall and talented Weatherford team and the final relief of no sleep, changing schedules and accommodating those teams that had to leave as well as those that remained.
“On the court we had a great final day,” said Thompson as the Raiders swept Aledo (25-19, 25-15) and Denton Guyer (25-15, 25-23) before facing Weatherford who had advanced with wins over Tuloso-Midway (25-20, 21-25, 25-15) and Byron Nelson (25-23, 25-20).
